Hi, I'm Rob, the operator and facilitator at Rob Saxton Adventure Therapy. I've been working with young people in outdoor environments for the past 9 years, and I love it. I am passionate about working alongside young people to explore their goals, and helping to navigate paths towards achieving them. I'm all about exploring cool places, experiencing wonder and having plenty of fun!
When I'm not running outdoor activity sessions, I'm often out in the garden or outdoor adventures of my own, either walking and birdwatching, mountain biking or rock climbing.
I hold a current Working With Childrens Check & Police Check, Wilderness First Aid & CPR, plus an NDIS Worker Clearance Check.
Drawing upon planned and dynamic risk assessment, I take thorough steps to ensure the emotional and physical safety of clients. In order to strike a balance between acceptable risk and client outcomes, I work with the young person to determine what it is they want to experience or achieve, and how to make it happen in a fun, safe way.
I trained through Charles Sturt University to attain a Bachelor in Outdoor Recreation, including a Certificate 4 in Outdoor Recreation through Wodonga TAFE. Since then I have maintained current certification in Mental Health First Aid, and Wilderness First Aid.
On various occasions I have attended workshops in trauma-focused practice and similar topics through Youth Flourish Outdoors, and the Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy (AABAT), and I engage with professional supervision and regular peer group meetings.
Oh and add to that a plenty of experience wandering the Australian bush from a young age (see photo), leading to a love for getting out there and helping others to appreciate our incredible natural environments.
